WHY AM I GROWING A TAIL? - is a story about a boy named Baquarium during the point in his life where things changed dramatically. At the start of the story, Baquarium is a normal teenager. He has good friends, what he thinks are cool parents, a strong work ethic, and a carefree attitude.

A new school year is about to start, which coincides with his 16th birthday, so life for Baquarium is on the up and up. If you ask him, the only things that he's worried about are getting a car as a birthday present, making the varsity wrestling team, and deciding whether to move on or get back with his Ex.

Unfortunately, on the day of his birthday, Baquarium's life goes into a tailspin, literally, when he grows a tail. He’s scared and confused; he has no idea where the tail came from or why he grew it. He contemplates asking his parents, but he's been looking forward to turning 16 for the independence and doesn't want to run to them. In addition to that, ever since a cult came to town, they’ve been acting sketchy, like they are trying to hide something.

Baquarium assumes that his parents' behavior change is because they don't like cults. Which he understands because he himself thinks that the cult members are odd. They call themselves the Heads of the Hydra; they all dress the same, and they preach about perfection.

You would think that peculiarness and what Baquarium already has going on would be enough to keep him away, but he can’t resist a pretty face. A girl in the cult is a new student at Baquarium’s school, and he’s love struck. Despite warnings from his best friend and parents, Baquarium tries to pursue her, which adds having to deal with the cult to the chaos of his life with a tail.
